TIME 5:30pm – 8:30pm
DATES Monday evenings, May 11 – June 22
DURATION 7 weeks
INSTRUCTOR Daisy Clennon
LEVEL Intermediate-to-Advanced

This 7-week session is ideal for students who want to move their skills into more advanced aspects of wheel throwing, surface decoration, and glazing beyond what is provided in the beginning wheel class.

PREREQUISITE Intermediate students must be competent in the foundational skills of wheel throwing including wedging, coning, centering, and pulling walls. Students should have taken at least one beginning wheel class at Mill Pond or elsewhere and demonstrate required skills. Your instructor can assess whether you are ready to move on to an intermediate class.

CLASS STRUCTURE In this intermediate class, you will explore new wheel-throwing techniques. Foundational skills will be revisited but the expectation is that you are confident in those skills and ready to push out of your comfort zone.

Prior to the start of this class, each student will propose topics for weekly demos that they are specifically interested in. Your instructor will respond to the class’s input but also suggest projects for the group. A more in-depth understanding of glazes will also be provided.

Skill-building techniques not covered in-depth in our foundational classes may be covered in our intermediate class such as: throwing in multiple parts, consistency in size, throwing off the hump, throwing larger, lids, and making more sophisticated handles.

Students Receive

  • One 25 lb. block of new clay, white or red/brown (*Students may purchase up to one additional 25 lb. block of Clay)

  • A 36w × 18d × 12h shelf to store work and tools
