DURATION: 7 weeks
INSTRUCTOR Bessa Smith
LEVEL Beginner
This 7-week session is ideal for a complete beginner or those with a little bit of experience. You’ll learn about the characteristics of clay and the basics of wheel throwing including centering and learning to throw simple forms, as well as surface decoration techniques and glazing. An overview of studio policies and procedures is included.

Students receive:
Weekly instruction (3 hours per week)
A personal shelf (18w × 18d × 12h)
One 25 lb. block of clay (*Students may purchase up to one additional 25 lb. block of Clay)
All kiln firing and glaze costs
Use of studio tools and equipment
Extra studio access during Student Practice Hours

Instructor Bessa Smith creates ceramic work with carved textures inspired by nature and organic forms that reference the body. As an instructor, she encourages an intuitive approach to the wheel, helping students build skills while discovering their own rhythm and way of learning.
