LEVEL Beginners to intermediate.

This seven-week session is ideal for complete beginners or someone who has taken a class or two. You’ll learn about the characteristics of clay and the basics of wheel throwing including centering and learning to throw simple forms, as well as surface decoration techniques and glazing. An overview of studio policies and procedures is included.

Students Receive

  • Free reclaimed clay (*Purchase new Clay)

  • A half-shelf to store work and tools

  • Open student hours in studio

  • Towels (*Purchase Towels coming soon)

  • Notebook and pen/pencil

  • Wheel throwing tools (*Purchase Tool Kits coming soon)

  • Bucket, bag, or tool holder for tool storage (*Purchase Tool Holders coming soon)

  • Please label all personal items with a Sharpie

Instructor
Isabella Rotman is a cartoonist and illustrator living and drawing in Maine. Isabella has been making ceramics for 2 1/2 years, and has been at Mill Pond since the beginning. Her ceramics work combines nature illustration with functional forms, and she particularly enjoys underglaze painting under a crystal clear glaze. See her work on Instagram and on her website.

By registering for this class, students agree to all terms and conditions in Mill Pond’s Studio Handbook. Please take the time to read and acquaint yourself with these policies and procedures, as failure to follow them could result in termination of student registration with no refund.

Cancellations, Make-Up Classes, Missed Classes

  • One-Week Notice If a registrant cancels one week or more prior to the class start, they receive a full refund (less a 10% processing fee).

  • Less Than One-Week Notice If a registrant cancels less than one week prior to the class start, they receive a 50% refund (less a 10% processing fee).

  • Once a Class Starts If a registrant cancels once a class has started, we cannot offer any refund.

  • Mill Pond Cancellations Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment will be canceled at least two days prior to the class start. Registrants will receive a full refund.

  • Credit We cannot offer credit for future classes for cancellations.

  • Make-Up Class If an in-process class is cancelled due to weather, an instructor illness, or other reasons, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session.

  • Missed Class If a registrant misses a class for personal reasons (including illness), we cannot offer partial refunds.
