ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORBrian Buckland is a ceramic artist in Bridgton Maine primarily focused on wood-fired utilitarian pottery. Buckland went to Plymouth State University and graduated in 2012 with a BFA in Ceramics. Following graduation, Buckland moved to Portland and was mentored by renowned Maine ceramicist Tyler Gulden. In 2018, he was selected as a Wood-Fire Artist in Residence at Gulagergaard International Research Center in Skælskør, Denmark. It was there that Buckland continued his work with wild clay, raw materials, gemstones and beach sand, incorporating them into his work as glazes, clay bodies and other surface techniques. He built a wood kiln at his home studio in Bridgton and had the first firing in September of 2023. Buckland continues to pursue local material and different wood firing techniques to physically bring the Maine landscape into his body of work.
