This 7-week session is ideal for a complete beginner or a beginner-intermediate (someone who has taken several classes). You’ll learn about the characteristics of clay and the basics of wheel throwing including centering and learning to throw simple forms, as well as surface decoration techniques and glazing. An overview of studio policies and procedures is included.
Open classes are perfect for potters with experience who want some additional support pursuing their projects. The instructor will be on hand to provide demos as needed and offer support, critique, and advice for self-directed project, but this is not a structured class like the Foundational or Intermediate classes.
Great for Wednesday night wheel students who would like to start early and make a day of it with support along the way.
Great for any wheel student who would like more focused and guided practice hours.
Attendees may extend their time on the wheel by adding up to two hours without the instructor: arrive at 1 p.m. and stay until 5 p.m.

Isabella Rotman is a cartoonist and illustrator living and drawing in Maine. Isabella has been making ceramics for 2 1/2 years, and has been at Mill Pond since the beginning. Her ceramics work combines nature illustration with functional forms, and she particularly enjoys underglaze painting under a crystal clear glaze. See her work on Instagram and on her website.
