Clay Whistles with Isabella Rotman

Form a traditional clay whistle by hand that can make beautiful sounds. In this workshop we will use simple hand-building techniques to make functional whistles that can play one to three notes. Shape your whistle into a sculpture, decorate with slip, or both! Search for “clay whistles” online for inspiration. Clay whistles are one of the earliest known musical instruments. Time: 5:30pm-8:30pm

Ages: This workshop is open to adults and older children 12+ accompanied by an adult.

Level: All Levels

Please bring: Yourself and your imagination. Nothing is required for this workshop, but the following may be useful to you:

  • Any personal hand-building tools you like to use

  • A notebook for sketching ideas

  • Snacks to energize your creativity

Bisque finishing: We can bisque fire your whistles at no charge. Bisqued whistles with a unglazed are perfectly functional.

Glazed finishing: Non-members may opt to finish their whistle with a glaze and a glaze firing which is available for a flat fee of $15 per whistle. Firing for members is included in membership.
