Making Fermentation Crocks with Isabella Rotman (2-part Workshop)

$125.00
Only 10 left in stock

Dates: Thursday August 21 and Thursday August 28th

Time: 5:30pm-8:30pm

Skill Level: Advanced. Participant should be able to easily center 3+ pounds of clay and pull walls for a larger form.

Want to make your own kimchi or sauerkraut in your very own fermentation vessel? In this workshop, we will cover making water-seal fermentation crocks. Fermentation crocks feature a “moat” around the rim in which the lid sits. The water in the moat allows CO2 gasses that accumulate during fermentation to escape, but does not allow air carrying potential contaminants to enter the vessel. It is a functional airlock, perfect for fermenting tasty and high quality vegetables!

CLASS ONE: we will throw 4-5 separate parts: the crock, the moat, the lid, the weights, and (optional) handles.

CLASS TWO: we will trim and connect all the parts, decorate surface, and prepare for bisque firing.

Glazing is included for current members. Non-members may pay-to-fire at Mill Pond.

Please bring:

  • 10-15 pounds of clay available in our SHOP

  • An apron

  • Throwing tools
